No TV · No Jukebox · No Fruit Machines

Nothing here to distract you from the fire, the ale and whoever's next to you at the bar.

The Sun Inn has stood at the top of Dent's cobbled main street for more than three hundred years. Inside there's an open fire and beams studded with old coins pressed in by hands long gone, and not much else. No television. No jukebox. No fruit machines. Just cask ale, a dartboard, and conversation.

Real Ale

Cask ales from Kirkby Lonsdale, and whatever's found its way in as a guest.

The Sun pours real cask ales from Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery, alongside rotating guest beers from around the country. No lager taps competing for attention, just proper cask, kept properly.

Dentdale valley seen from above, fields stitched together with drystone walls, autumn trees, and the village of Dent tucked among them below the fells.

The Valley

Dentdale, from above.

Fields stitched together with drystone wall, the village lost in its own trees below the fell. It takes some finding, that's rather the point. Worth the drive, whichever direction you're coming from.

The atmosphere is everything you want from a village pub: warm, welcoming, and full of character.

Lovely, homely, traditional pub, ideal after a long Dales walk. Beer is well kept and tasty, good range too.

Darren CTripAdvisor, September 2024

My kind of pub, warm welcome, traditional, log fire and cask ales… Definitely will return.

For The Village

The Sun Inn is up for sale, and Dent is trying to buy it.

Dent Community Pub Ltd, a Community Benefit Society, has an accepted offer to buy the Sun Inn for the village. They're now raising funds for the survey and legal costs that come next, to keep the original Dales village inn exactly as it is.
